John 15:1-17

40 Days of John

Day 27: John 15:1-17

Jesus calls us His friends in today's scripture.

"As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you.  Now remain in my love...I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete."
John 15:9, 11

Jesus is talking to you and me today and telling us with certainty of His forever love for us.  This is an awesome promise in and of itself.

Yet, Jesus wants more for us than to simply be loved.  Jesus wants more for us than for us to just receive His love.  He wants us to really know His love and live into it.  Jesus is telling us that His love changes our lives and who we are in the world.

How do we remain in His love?  Jesus tells us to live with Him in mind, following His way for our lives.  And as we do that, as we FOLLOW Jesus, we don't just receive His love, we find unshakeable joy that makes our lives complete.

In what ways are you already living with Jesus in mind?  Are there any ways you feel Jesus is calling you to live differently?

A prayer for today-

Dear God,

Thank You for Jesus who came to the world and lives in us through the Holy Spirit.

Forgive me, Lord, because I know I am prone to wander from Your transforming love.

I pray that You will fill me with Your joy.  Make my joy complete in Christ. Help me to soak in Your Words for my life, Lord, and continue to be changed by Your grace.

I pray for all those, near and far, who are desperately looking for ways to be happy, but only finding temporary and insufficient fixes at best.  Draw them to You, Lord, and bless them with Your joy.  Heal those who are broken, comfort those who are hurting, and supply those who are in need.  Use my hands and feet for Your joy.

I thank You for knowing me by name and for hearing my prayers, Lord.  You are our Savior, now and forever.

In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen

Peace of Christ,
