Leviticus 19-22

God is talking more to Moses about keeping things holy in Leviticus 19-22.  He reminds Moses of the Ten Commandments and offers a few more details of His good advice.  God discusses proper punishments for not following His commands.  It’s clear that the priests have to maintain a higher standard of purity than the common person.  Yet, us commoners, we aren’t off the hook.  God wants and deserves our utmost respect no matter who we are.

God seemed to repeat Himself again and again in today’s reading.  His message can be summed up in this verse.

You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own.

Clearly, God is trying to stress, in so many words, this reminder.  It must be important.  He wants us to really get what He’s saying.

Do I (get it)?  Do you?

It’s certainly something I need to think about on a daily basis.

God wants His people to know who He is.

He is THE LORD.  That means God is sovereign.  He has all authority.  That comes with unimaginable power and glory.

He, alone, is HOLY.  Everything about Him is unique, special, and sacred.

We are not holy on our own.  God knows us and how far from holy we all are.  And the good news is, He still calls us to be His.

Because of God, His LOVE for us, His CLAIM on our very lives, and His own holiness, we have all we need.

All of this is huge.  It’s the foundation to His many promises for our lives.  God is reminding me that He wants me (and you) to take responsibility for who I am with Him in my life.

As His children, His calls us to be more like Him.  These words from today are telling me how much God longs for our devotion and respect.  In the same way He calls us His children, God wants us to claim Him, our Lord, our Father, our Savior.  God, in all His holiness, has made us unique and special for His sacred purposes.

God wants to teach us who we are as we grow up with Him.  He wants to show us what we can become through Him.  For sure, God's way for us will be above and beyond our own limited capacity.

God knows all that we don’t, and I am reminded of who I am in Christ.

That’s worth remembering!

A prayer for today-
Dear God,

I thank You for making me Yours.  You are my Lord and Savior.  Forgive me for all the ways I fall short of Your holiness.  Keep reminding of Your promises and purposes for me, day by day.  Please, Lord, continue to bless me with Your love, mercy, and favor now and for generations to come.  Help me to know You more and more and who I am in Christ.

I pray Your blessings will be upon ________________ today.

To You, alone, Lord, be all power and glory forever and ever.

In the name of Jesus I pray,
Amen

Grace and peace,
