Deuteronomy 13-15

Moses seems to be thinking about the Israelites' future in Deuteronomy 13-15.  He knows life in the Promise Land will be full of prosperity and blessing, making it all too easy to forget their absolute need for God above all else.  Interestingly, we see that there is a scheduled time for freeing people from their indebtedness to others, regardless of what is owed.  It's also clear that God's people, even before Jesus, are to take care of others less fortunate.  Moses reminds the Israelites to give to God out of their abundant blessings with their tithes.   Moses wants to make sure God's people don't lose their focus on Him, and His holiness.

God's blessings are about to be poured out on the Israelites.  Things are about to get really good.  They don't know their whole life is about to change for the better, but we do, in hindsight.

When things change for us, we know God stays the same.  Whether the change in our lives is for worse or for better, God wants us to remember who we are in Christ.  Moses puts it this way,

for you are a people holy to the Lord your God. Out of all the peoples on the face of the earth, the Lord has chosen you to be his treasured possession.

What an honor and privilege it is to be a believer!  We belong to Him.  We are God's treasure!  That's worth remembering and holding onto wherever we are in life.

A prayer for today-

Dear God,

Thank You for the faith You give me out of Your own perfect faithfulness.  Thank You for making me Your treasured child.

No matter where I am in this life, Lord, help me to remember that I belong to You.  I want to serve You above all else, no matter what is going on around me.  Forgive me for my missed opportunities.  Continue to open my eyes and guide me through all of my days.

I give my day to you, Lord.  Guide me with Your Holy Spirit.  Show me where You need me to be Your loving hands and feet in the world.

I pray for all those who cross my path today, those I know and those I don't.  May I be a reflection of Your light and a blessing to those around me.

In the name of Your Son, Jesus, I pray,
Amen

Love and peace,
